Mulching

Mulching makes it possible to protect the ground against the development from weeds around the plants or the shafts and the shrubs.

It retains moisture on the level of the ground for the summer period and the winter protects from the strong frosts.

In the case of the strawberry plants for example, it makes it possible to protect the bits from the stains by the ground.

Mulch can be made up of various materials:

Natural mulching:

• cut or chopped straw if you find some close to on your premise
• the barks of maritime pines which exist of pieces of various sizes are ideal for the ground plants of heather but also for the solid masses of shafts and shrubs or the Mediterranean plants. Lay out a layer of at least 5 cm thickness. Lifespan from 4 to 5 years.

• the dry fern (mixed, it also), rich in potash and silica (good for much of plants, in particular peonies and pinks of Christmas and other hellebores). If you want to like the rose trees, to add to the mixed fern of the nettles, attention, it is necessary to collect them before they go up to seeds!
• the mulch of barks of poplar to a neutral pH and is thus ideal for the solid masses. To use on a thickness of at least 5 cm. 2 years lifespan.
• the mulch of resulting from the stems of hemp at one 2 years lifespan

Other types of mulching:

• the plastic film which simpler to install before the plantation of your plants
• gravel
• rollers
• sand
• cartons which can be recycled
• the plundered brick
• the slate of pieces
• pozzolana (stone of lava)

Organic mulching is interesting because in addition to its share quoted previously, it breaks up slowly and brings matters useful for the plants and the earthworms which take part in their integration on the ground.
